Do OSHA cards expire?

An OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Outreach card does not carry a federal expiration date โ€” once earned, it is generally valid indefinitely at the federal level. However, many states, unions, project owners and GCs impose their own recency rules; for example, some jurisdictions require the card to have been issued within the last five years, and specific programs (like New York Cityโ€™s Site Safety Training) have their own timelines. Other certifications absolutely do expire: a DOT medical certificate is valid up to 24 months (often shorter for certain conditions), CPR/First Aid is typically 2 years, powered industrial truck (forklift) operator evaluations must be redone at least every 3 years, and respirator fit tests and many competent-person credentials are annual. This tool gives common defaults, but always confirm against the issuing body, your state plan and your clientโ€™s requirements.
