There is no national licence check in Canada
Canada has no national or DVLA-style one-click driver-record check. Licences are issued by each province, and a driving history is a driver’s abstract held by that province’s authority — ServiceOntario/MTO in Ontario, the SAAQ in Québec, ICBC in British Columbia, registry agents in Alberta. So the defensible Canadian workflow is evidence-based and consent-first:
Verify the licence document and identity (Canadian licences carry the AAMVA 2D barcode, so the data can be captured at the counter), record the renter’s consent under applicable privacy law (PIPEDA federally, Law 25 in Québec), then obtain a provincial abstract where you check history — in provinces such as Alberta and Québec the authority requires the individual’s written authorisation before releasing it. Complys captures the identity, the consent and the evidence; it never implies a national one-click check that doesn’t exist, and capturing a barcode is not the same as an authoritative validity check.

Do I have to pull an abstract for every rental?
That's your policy and your insurer's requirement, not a single law — many operators verify the licence and take consent, and check abstracts by risk or for longer-term rentals. Because a driver's abstract is personal information, consent (under PIPEDA, and Law 25 in Québec) is what makes the check lawful. Complys records the consent and the evidence so your policy is auditable.
Is this the same product as your UK, Australian and US rental software?
The identity, consent and record-check step is Canada-specific (a provincial driver's abstract with consent, not a UK DVLA share code, an Australian DVS check or a US MVR). Everything from the rental agreement onward — e-signature, check-out and check-in condition, damage evidence and the audit trail — runs on the same global engine, so the workflow is proven, just localized correctly.
Does it handle deposits and damage disputes?

Deposits and the structured out-vs-in comparison and dispute workflow are launching next, and they're labelled that way rather than implied to be available today.
Do you have a French version for Québec?
A genuine Québec-French (fr-CA) experience is planned, authored in French with SAAQ/PEVL terminology rather than machine-translated — because in Québec a rental agreement and consent form shown to a renter should be in French. It's on the roadmap and labelled Planned, not presented as available today.
