Manual handling risk assessment software

Manual handling risk assessment software

Build and store manual handling risk assessments applying the TILE factors, record the controls that reduce the risk, track manual handling training, and keep it all audit-ready under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

Avoid, assess, reduce

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 set a clear order. First, avoid hazardous manual handling so far as reasonably practicable, can it be mechanised or eliminated? Where it cannot be avoided, assess it, weighing the Task, the Individual, the Load and the Environment. Then reduce the risk of injury so far as reasonably practicable with the right controls. There is no legal maximum weight, HSE guideline figures and the Manual Handling Assessment Charts (MAC) help judge higher-risk handling. Complys holds each assessment and its controls.

Assessments & controls

Record your manual handling risk assessments, applying the Task, Individual, Load and Environment factors, and the controls that reduce the risk, kept together and audit-ready.

Controls to closure

Record the controls that reduce the risk, mechanical aids, team lifts, route changes, as owned, dated actions tracked to done.

Training & competence

Track manual handling training and refreshers for each worker, with expiry alerts, kept alongside the assessments.

Review on change

Reassess when the task, the load, the people or the environment change, with review dates and reminders.

Any sector

From warehouses and care to construction and retail, keep every manual handling assessment in one register with a live picture of what is done.

One of your workplace risk assessments

Manual handling is a specific type of risk assessment, and Complys keeps it with the rest. See the general risk assessment software, COSHH assessments for substances, DSE assessments for screen work, and, for construction, the RAMS builder. The same actions, review dates and audit trail run across all of them.

Manual handling risk assessment software, FAQs

When is a manual handling risk assessment needed?

Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, an employer must first avoid hazardous manual handling so far as reasonably practicable. Where it cannot be avoided, the employer must make a suitable assessment of it and then reduce the risk of injury so far as reasonably practicable. Complys is where those assessments and the controls are built and kept.

What is TILE?

TILE is the set of factors a manual handling assessment weighs up: the Task (how the load is moved, posture, distance, frequency), the Individual (the person's capability), the Load (weight, size, whether it is awkward, hot or sharp) and the Environment (space, floors, lighting, temperature). Complys is where those manual handling risk assessments and their controls are recorded and kept; the assessment itself is made by a competent person.

Is there a legal maximum weight a person can lift?

No. The Regulations set no absolute maximum weight. HSE provides guideline figures to help decide when a more detailed assessment is needed, and the Manual Handling Assessment Charts (MAC) tool helps assess higher-risk lifting, carrying and team handling. The right control depends on the whole TILE picture, not the weight alone.

Does Complys include manual handling training?

Complys tracks manual handling training and competence for each worker with expiry alerts, and keeps it alongside the assessments, but it is a records and management platform, not a training provider. The assessment itself should be made by a competent person; Complys structures, stores and evidences it.
