Spray painting creates a fine mist of paint, solvents and - for two-pack products - isocyanates. It is a high-exposure activity that needs proper ventilation, RPE and control of the spray area.
Controls should be applied in order — eliminate or substitute first, then engineering controls, then PPE as the last line.
You need effective ventilation - a spray booth or room with LEV - and air-fed breathing apparatus, because two-pack paint mist contains isocyanates that cause occupational asthma. Cartridge masks alone are not enough for the full task.
It removes much of the solvent and, if non-isocyanate, the sensitiser risk - so substitution is a strong control. You still need to control the fine mist with ventilation and suitable RPE.
